Product Design and Selection
A. Pressure drop is the resistance to airflow across an open damper and increases as turbulent flow increases. The total resistance of airflow in the system must be considered when sizing air movement devices such as fans.
A. Air Leakage is the airflow rate through the closed damper for a given pressure differential across the damper. Understanding damper leakage rates and leakage classes enables specifiers, contractors, and building owners to identify the correct damper products. Specifying and installing low-leakage dampers (Class 1 preferred, Class 2 at a minimum by code) helps ensure that the building HVAC system is operating at its most energy-efficient level. A: An actuator is a device that causes the damper to cycle open and closed. Ruskin offers a wide variety of manual, electric, and pneumatic actuators. Actuators and Damper Accessories LINK
A: An airfoil blade shape is stronger and can handle higher pressures when the blades are closed, and has lower pressure drop when damper is open because air flows more smoothly across it. V-groove shape blade will produce higher pressure drop because air flow is more turbulent across it, and will also produce higher noise at increased velocities.
A: Santoprene is the default on most airfoil blade damper models with an option for silicone. Vinyl coated polyester is used on v-groove blade damper with an option for silicone.
A: Our recommendation would be our CE (critical/coastal environment) models either CD50CE or TED50CE which both are extruded aluminium with 7 mils thick anodized finish, stainless steel linkage and non-corrosive bearings. Both have airfoil shape blades and meet AMCA Class 1A leakage when closed. The TED50CE has insulated blades and is thermally efficient with an R value of 2.16[hr·ft2·°F/BTU] tested to ASTM C1363-2011. A: Our DC (data center) models would be recommended; CD60DC, CD50DC and TED50DC. The CD60DC is made of galvanized steel, and CD50DC & TED50DC are made of extruded aluminium. All three models have airfoil shape blades for high performance and meet AMCA Class 1A leakage when closed. The TED50DC has insulated blades and is thermally efficient with an R value of 2.16[hr·ft2·°F/BTU] tested to ASTM C1363-2011.
