The BTD830 is a rectangular bubble tight damper, now available up to 48 inches in width and ideal for applications where extremely low leakage is required. The rectangular design is a lower-cost alternative that offers more free area, lower pressure drop, and better airflow compared to round or oval bubble tight dampers.

Ruskin is pleased to announce the BTD830 bubble tight isolation damper, the company’s newest addition to its bubble tight product series. The BTD830 is a rectangular bubble tight damper ideal for applications where extremely low leakage is required. The rectangular design offers more free area, lower pressure drops, better airflow compared to round or oval dampers, and is a lower-cost alternative to other bubble tight dampers.

NSBT Selects TFD80
Ruskin is supplying the TFD80 Heavy Duty Combination Fire/Smoke Dampers for Tunnel Ventilation. There are 400 assemblies in the project, 359 of which are 3m x 2m and mounted in the tunnel ceiling for emergency smoke ventilation. The dampers are built in G165 galvanized coating steel with special epoxy coating in matt-black finish, per the requirements of the specification.
Together with Ruskin’s customer, United Group Infrastructure, and Ruskin’s representative to Australia, Applied Technology Integration, Ltd. of Hong Kong, a new thermal enclosure for the Valvcon electric damper actuators has been developed, to provide continued operation at 300 deg. C for 2 hours. This enclosure will become Ruskin’s standard for tunnel projects throughout the world when electric actuators are required.
Ruskin is proud to be associated with such a prestigious and important project on the Australian Continent.
2009 Project On Track
Dubai Metro is a fully-automated rail tunnel passing below the city of Dubai in the UAE. Currently, the Red and Green Lines are under construction, with more lines in the planning stages. The $4.2 billion Metro rail system is on target to open in September 2009, according to the Road Traffic Association (RTA), which is managing the project.
The main part of the system is underground, with elevated viaducts on the outskirts. Around 7,000 people are working around the clock on the project at different sites across the city. Once completed, 87 fully automated, driverless, trains will run on the Red and Green Lines, which will comprise over 75 kilometers of track. Nearly 2 million people will be able to use the Metro when it is completed.
Tunnel Ventilation Dampers
Ruskin is supplying the TFD80 Heavy Duty Combination Fire/Smoke Dampers for Tunnel Ventilation. There are 189 assemblies in the project with 111 of them in 4m x 4m size, all operated by electric battery-backup actuators by Valvcon, with special thermal enclosures to allow operation at 250 deg. C for 2 hours in emergency situations.
Ruskin is working very closely with our United Kingdom office and the customer, ETA/SET joint venture in Dubai on this most prestigious project.
After seventeen years of planning, the Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit project (KMRT) will open its Red and Orange lines in October 2007. This prestigious $5.2 billion project for Taiwan's largest harbor and second largest city, will intersect Kaohsiung and provide much needed public transportation in this rapidly flourishing Southern Taiwan community.

To meet the high pressure requirements of the project, Ruskin’s Industrial Engineering Group designed a special box-blade version of our TFD80 tunnel damper. The special TFD80 damper also included factory mounted actuators. 1500 in-lb industrial quality pneumatic actuators with high temp limit switches were provided to meet the 250oC (482oF) temperature requirement.
The station ventilation dampers provided were Ruskin’s FSD60, SD60, CD60 and DIBD-series products, proven throughout the world to be the standard by which all other dampers are measured.
The design and construction of the project was handled through many of Taiwan’s top consulting engineers and contractors. Waxlink provided much of the technical input for design and assisted in the consulting responsibilities for many of the stations.
As the specifications called for USA manufacturing, Ruskin plants in Mira Loma (CA) , Parsons (KS) and Fairmont (WV) all teamed up to complete this large order. In late 2005 the first shipment for Station C ...

To meet the requirements of the project specifications, Ruskin hosted two groups of engineers and contractors from Taiwan in 2005 and 2006 to witness damper testing at Ruskin’s AMCA Accredited Laboratory at their worldwide headquarters in Kansas City, MO.
During the witness tests, the following damper performance was evaluated:
Damper Leakage
Damper Pressure Drop
Elevated Temperature of 250oC (482oF) for 1 hour
Structural Integrity
Damper Closure performance
After the tests were completed, Steven Chen of Waxlink had this to say.
“The customers are very happy with the quality of the Ruskin dampers. The rugged construction of the special TFD80 Box-Blade damper is suited well to the application since the dampers must withstand many daily pressure transversals up to 6kPa.”
With the expected expansion of the system adding Blue and Brown lines in the next 2-3 years, Ruskin and Waxlink International can play a major role in the rapid economic growth of this flourishing city in Southern Taiwan.
